Richard Borer
Richard Borer is an American politician, former mayor of West Haven, Connecticut, and member of the Democratic Party. He currently is President of Easter Seals Goodwill Industries in New Haven, Connecticut.
Born and raised in Milford, Connecticut Borer attended West Haven’s Our Lady of Victory and Milford High School, going on study Organizational Management at Charter Oak State College and earn an Executive MBA from the University of New Haven. Currently, Rich serves as President and CEO of Easter Seals Goodwill Industries.
In 1991, Rich was elected Mayor of the City of West Haven,〔http://www.nytimes.com/1992/04/02/nyregion/west-haven-bailout-plan-calls-for-hartford-to-take-the-rudder.html〕 a position he held for seven terms. During his tenure as Mayor, Borer focused on the redevelopment of commercial areas,〔http://www.nhregister.com/general-news/20140610/200-million-100-store-center-proposed-in-west-haven〕 public safety,〔http://www.usmayors.org/usmayornewspaper/documents/09_27_04/west_haven.asp〕 and city improvements, including in transportation, infrastructure, shoreline maintenance, parks and education. In 1996, Rich was appointed by President Bill Clinton’s Secretary of HUD, Henry Cisneros, to a six-member panel to advise on Section 8 reforms while simultaneously serving as Chairman of the South Central Regional Council of Governments.
After being appointed President of Easter Seals Goodwill Industries in 2006, Borer spearheaded organizational changes spurring unprecedented growth. Over the last nine years, Easter Seals Goodwill Industries has seen substantial advances in the quantity of those helped and the quality of help offered,〔http://www.nhregister.com/general-news/20150328/ex-offenders-in-new-haven-find-hope-smiles-at-st-lukes-episcopal-church〕 in addition to nearly 400% growth in the retail sector. Borer has served on the Executive Board of Directors for the 1995 Special Olympics World Games. Additionally, he has served on the Board of Directors of Saint Lawrence School, the Gateway Community College Foundation, and the Farnam House.
